Knives Out Deck Design (2019)

With this deck, I was tasked to create eye-catching designs to capture the essence of Rian Johnson’s 2019 film “Knives Out”. We had no set photography or talent images, only the script and a general idea of the aesthetic. I utilized actual cut paper (both white paper and victorian wallpaper) because it captured the playful puzzle mystery that was the script. I also gravitated towards something that was more abstracted since we had no concept of the finished product of the film. The abstracted images you see include that of major plot points, the cast in silhouette, and of course, knives. We won this business for the social campaign and the client was highly receptive to these design choices.
